Claudio Calva Noriega

Biography

Claudio Calva Noriega is a talented Mexican painter born on January 23, 1977 in Mexico City. He has been a prolific plastic artist for more than 10 years and has participated in several exhibitions in his hometown.

He defines his work as abstract visualization; in his work predominate the colors that evoke natural elements like water, plants, cloudy sky, the sea, the electricity, the space (different shades of blue, green, gray) and the organic and relative forms of the nature.

Although he took some painting classes in his early days, he decided to leave the courses and go on his own. For him, "when the painter leaves the rules to unleash his inspiration and instinct, is when the most interesting creation begins and the creative process of the artist takes shape and style."

For this artist, improvisation is very important, his paintings can change in a few minutes; his paintings may change in a few minutes because he is painting on the fly as his inspiration dictates. He doesn´t plan anything before making a painting, nor does he have an idea of what he is going to paint before he starts.

For Calva, art filled a gap in his life. Although from a very young age he painted, sketched and made sketches, he decided to try his luck in painting and now, he says, "it's something he can not leave, it's a huge passion." One of his favorite painters and great source of inspiration is Gerhard Richter, a German plastic artist born in Dresden in 1932.

Currently, Calva has a studio where he exhibits most of his work and is periodically holding exhibitions in different places in Mexico City.
